FACE!! is the second album I've used effects channels on. I was a very slow learner with my software. The first album to use effects channels was "With a Flame" which I do not host here due to the fact that I despise it. I was starting to get the hang of them a bit more by this point. I consider FACE!! to be the start of a 4th era in my sound. Mode7 marks the start of the 5th. Click on the links below to download individual songs from the album.
- Parasite
(originally from Metroid) [ 2.11meg 2:18 ] - This is a pretty fast paced rendition of the main theme from the original Metroid. My favorite aspect of it would definitely be the texture of the bass instrument. The pacing gets broken up nicely with a slow section in the middle. Definitely one of my favorites on the album.
- Face Down
[ 2.25meg 2:28 ] - This is an original I made when I really wasn't in a great mood. It helped me to feel less upset and turned an otherwise unhappy day into a productive one. The mood is fairly dark. I tried to go for a bassier, punchier sound than normal. The tunes are pretty minimal, but they help move the song along.
- Disco Link
(originally from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past) [ 4.90meg
5:21 ] - Whenever I ask people what their favorite song on the album
is, they always tell me it's this one. This is a medley of a couple
different Zelda songs in the style of Disco with a bit of my own flavor as well. It's really catchy and
addictive. My favorite aspect of this song is the warbaly bassline.
- A New Beginning (originally by Good Charlotte) [ 2.15meg 2:21 ] - The intro track of a Good Charlotte album my brother, Jonah, had started out with a non-punk sound that I found interesting. As the original song progresses, guitars come in and it turns into the style of punk you would expect from the band. I took just the intro section and made it into techno instead of punk. It's pretty slow paced, but a bit bumpin'. Jonah, requested me to make this song.
- FACE!!
[ 1.77meg 1:56 ] - Ah, here it is: the TITLE TRACK! This one is based
on an inside joke. My circle of friends use to get a sense of power out of saying the word "FACE!!". I then made this song to parody the bass testing songs people use to help setup their stereos.
- Hurricane Blitz
(originally from Megaman 2) [ 1.95meg 2:08 ] - Airman's theme is one of the most recognized and energetic videogame songs out there. I think this tune sounds best when it's played fast. This remix is no exception. I went with a bit of a breakbeat sound on the drums. It's a bit short, but I put an extra little section in the end to mix it up.
- The Singing Mountain
(originally from Chrono Trigger) [ 2.39meg 2:36 ] - I've always loved this tune. The intro slowly builds into the song. First come the strings, then the breakbeats, and finally we have more of a dance beat. Then things ease back down and finally come to a halt.
- Anxious Heart
(originally from Final Fantasy 7) [ 3.21meg 3:30 ] - This song is much faster than the its source material. The tune has a much different feel with the tempo difference. I ended up using the beat I made for this song in other songs throughout the album. If you listen carefully, you try to pick out how many of these songs use it. This is one of my favorites on this album. The lead instruments sound pretty nice.
- Deception
[ 4.64meg 5:04 ] - This is an original trance song I made. I made almost all of it in one sitting. Everything just kind
of came to me at once. It started out as a remix of Sick of it All by
Finger 11 (don't ask), but as I got into it it sounded absolutely
NOTHING like that song in any way, shape or form and it somehow turned
into what it is now. At the time, the only voice samples I had on my computer were rips of the dub of Evangelion, so naturally this is where they ended up.
- Grudge Match
[ 4.30meg 4:42 ] - One of my friends wanted to put background music on his site. Originally, he wanted to put Rob Dougan's "Clubbed to Death" on there, but obviously didn't hold the rights to use it. This song was originally made to be used in place of it. Though it is an original song, it is very heavily inspired by "Clubbed to Death".
- Flute Skootin' Boogie (originally from Mappy) [ 638kb 0:40 ] - This one requires some explaining... Long ago when my brother, Jonah, and I rented Mappy for our NES, our NES started have some problems. So after that every time our NES would mess up we'd shout something along the lines of, "DARN YOU MAPPY!!" So I couldn't resist making a tribute to Mappy and showing it to Jonah. Unfortunately, this joke "song" is actually rather loud and obnoxious.
- Newborn
(originally by Muse) [ 4.39meg 4:48 ] - This is the only song on the
album with vocals. It's really only a remix on the intro of Newborn. The second half has a much different flow to it in the first.
- Reoccuring Dreams
(originally from Final Fantasy 7) [ 2.87meg 3:08 ] - This uses a fairly typical dance beat. There is a lot of build up with some very simple and often repetative string sections before the recognizable tune actually starts.
